As part of a cohort of 15 Miami University students living in and serving the community of Over-The-Rhine in cincinnati, ohio, I was one of five Architecture majors tasks with aiding in the renovation of 1324 Race St. Apt. 2, a low-income housing unit that houses students during the fall semester and serves as temporary emergency housing to community members for the rest of the year.
For the first month, my team was responsible for creating the HVAC and electrical plans for the apartment, building the soffits for the air ducks, building stud walls to support a redesigned kitchen.
After these tasks were completed, each member of our team was assigned various elements we were planning to add to the apartment to design and fabricate ourselves. I designed booth-style seating in the kitchen that doubled as storage space, as well as the decorative sconce lighting for the dining area walls.
