HI, I'M MIRANDA, BORN & RAISED IN WASHINGTON, DC.
I strive to be a limitless creative - someone not bound to a particular industry or condition of design thinking, but rather acquiring skills and translating them into any project. I have a passion for storytelling and creating space for voices and narratives not often told.
While my educational background is in architecture, the majority of my training is in footwear design. My interests lie within all things at the cross-section of Black culture & sneakers. I am always looking for unconventional ways to work creatively with shoes, and pride myself in being knowledgeable in a variety of areas that help me bring new ideas to life.
Often times this is achieved by reinventing a part of myself & what I love:
What started as customizing sneakers for fun, turned into an $11,000 grant to study the similarities in the design language of American sneaker culture & West African textiles in Ghana.
My dedication to my city has manifested into a Pensole project for New Balance that pays homage to DC's culture.
That project was also the catalyst for discovering other creative pathways in sneakers that I enjoy, such as creative brand marketing and concept creation. I got the chance to showcase my talents in those areas during the Pensole x New Balance Masterclass, where I won for my brand design project for Kawhi Leonard.
Though sneakers are my main focus, not all of my projects have to be related to them to still tell meaningful stories like the creative event curation I did for the Gentrification Displaces Memory project.
This is only the beginning. There are many more stories to tell and I'm driven to tell as many as possible.
